Hi! I am Ummea Salma. Currently working as an Information Technology Analyst at City of Cornelius, Oregon. I completed my master’s in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Connecticut. I was fortunate to have Professor Bing Wang as my advisor and Professor Minmei Wang as my co-advisor. My research interests are in Computer Network, Network Security, Social Media Mining and Deep Learning. I did an independent research on secure data sharing system for Vehicular Network. I hold another M.S degree in Information Technology from Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka. I completed my B.Sc in Computer Science and Engineering from Stamford University Bangladesh.

In my free time I enjoy taking care of my houseplants. I love drawing, specially Mandalas. I am also interested in photography and cooking as well.

  • [2025.12] Started a full-time position as an IT Analyst at the City of Cornelius, Oregon.
  • [2025.11] Received a full-time offer to join as a Teaching Faculty in the Department of Computer & Information Technology at Miami University, Ohio.
  • [2025.07] Received an offer to join as an Adjunct Faculty in the Computer Science Department at Johnson & Wales University.
  • [2025.08] Attended WordCamp US 2025 conference in Portland, Oregon.
  • [2024.12] I have successfully graduated from UConn!
  • [2024.10] Attended the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Annual Conference 2024 in Chicago, Illinois.

Fun Facts about me

  • I love hiking 🥾🎒 though I get tired very easily! I have a long bucket list of trails I want to hike.
  • ☕️ My favourite drinks are Latte, Iced Matcha 🍵 and Boba. I also like making latte art, pattern progress: blob (100%), rosetta (80%), solid heart (20%), some strange not sure what this pattern is! (100%).
  • 🪴 I have a huge collection of houseplants. I go grocery shopping and come home with five new plants instead of groceries! Taking care of my plants is my number one priority.
  • 🎨 Once obsessed with drawing mandalas and ended up creating over 100 of them! Now I’m experimenting with watercolors and gouache.
